We've had everything thrown at us, weather-wise, in the past few years.  We should be used to it.  Early October snowstorms, ice storms, tornado warnings with rain and hail ... One thing we know for sure:  Winter is coming and we better be prepared!
Being prepared in New England means more than just having your heating system inspected, tuned up, and maintained.  That's a given and should be done sooner, rather than later.
I'm talking about a PLAN B!
Do you have one?
Years ago, people in this neck of the woods had a wood stove that came in handy when they had problems with their furnace or there was an unexpected power outage.  Back then, getting a furnace or boiler back up and running after a mechanical failure took time (it sometimes still does).
Over the years, we have grown to take for granted that an "emergency call" for having no heat would be fixed immediately.  However, it sometimes takes days to obtain special parts.
And ... we are all too familiar with power outages that can take days or weeks in some cases to return to normal.
So ... what can we do?  What is our contingency plan?
You need to protect your home, not just to have the all-season comfort you desire, but also to ensure that pipes don't burst in homes with no heat because of a power failure or system breakdown. Talk to us at Wilson Brothers Heating and Cooling to put your PLAN B together.  Your home is your biggest investment and needs protection when the New England weather strikes hard.   We'll be happy to discuss how each of the following can protect you for the period of time when your heating system is disrupted for any reason:
*    Wood stove
*    Propane or natural gas fireplace insert
*    Whole house generator
*    Electric Heater
If you haven't had your heating system inspected and tuned up for the 2014 Winter season, call us today for an appointment: 978-433-5373.
Even miniscule air leaks can result in huge losses in efficiency, which will lead to higher heating bills this winter. To decrease your energy bill, watch this video for instructions on how to seal off air leaks in your home.

First, use a putty knife to remove the old caulk around the area that you plan to seal. Clean the area with a strong cleaning solution to remove grease and grime. Then use the caulking gun to seal leaks that are smaller than a quarter of an inch thick, and the expanding foam sealant to take care of gaps that are wider than that. Be sure to seal both the inside and the outside of the home, in areas around the foundation, basement, and attic. Use weatherstripping to seal areas around the doors and windows. For more tips on fixing air leaks, watch this video. If you want to lower your heating bill this winter, call Wilson Brothers of Concord, MA. The weather was dreary and rainy, but that didn’t damper the shoppers at the First Annual Wilson Brothers Charity Garage Sale which raised $1,000 in cash and an additional $100 in food donations. Held inside the huge Wilson Brothers garage, the sale featured toys, games and books; household items; electronics; sports equipment; furniture … and more! Wilson Brothers’ customers, neighbors, and residents of the surrounding communities came in to donate canned goods and non-perishables for the PACH (Pepperell Aid from Community to Home) Food Pantry collection bin and to browse for a bargain. They were not disappointed! “We are proud to be able to hold this event,” said Tom Wilson. “This is a win-win situation – we were able to clean out our own garages, attics, and play rooms … those who came to shop got some remarkable bargains … PACH received money to help fund their operations and is able to, in turn, help people in our community who are in need. It is a cycle that we are pleased to participate in,” he added. A check was presented last week to Ellen Castellano, president of PACH, who remarked, “It is just wonderful to have people in Pepperell who support PACH in such an amazing way. Wilson Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning has been tremendous in their on-going assistance with their Food Collection for PACH and now this Charity Garage Sale. We are very grateful to them for all their help.” PACH is located in Pepperell at the Peter Fitzpatrick School at 45 Main Street. Their new office and Food Pantry hours are: Tuesday 5 – 7 pm; Thursdays 2 – 4 pm and first and third Thursdays 5 – 7 pm. Wilson Brothers continues to support PACH with its food collection bin in the lobby at 35 Lomar Park Drive, Pepperell. Canned goods and non-perishables are always appreciated. A check for $1,000 was presented to Ellen Castellano, President of PACH (Pepperell Assistance from Community to Home), by Tom Wilson, President of Wilson Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning in Pepperell. The money represented the proceeds of the Charity Garage Sale held recently at Wilson Brothers. The Wilson Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning announces that it will hold a Charity Garage Sale on Saturday, October 1st from 8 am – 2 pm (Rain or Shine). To be held in their 35 Lomar Park Drive parking lot, the garage sale will feature surplus equipment and supplies from the Wilson Brothers warehouse, along with furniture, toys, books, games, household goods, electronics, small appliances, and various and sundry items donated by Wilson Brothers and its employees. Proceeds from the event are earmarked for the Pepperell Food Pantry. In addition, Wilson Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning will have a food collection box available for non-perishables and canned goods that the public is invited to bring to the Charity Garage Sale. Wilson Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning has been collecting non-perishables for the PACH Food Pantry in Pepperell since the beginning of the year and has collected more than a ton of food. Tom, Paul, and JohnWilson feel so strongly about their company’s commitment to supporting the Food Pantry, that they have discounted the cost of heating and air conditioning tune-ups for his customers in exchange for a sack of groceries. “The Food Pantries are the recipients of generous donations around the holidays, but this time of year the shelves get to be a bit bare,” explained Tom Wilson. According to the Food Pantry’s Web site, they are especially in need of the following items: canned meat, including tuna, ham, and chicken; cereal – any type of healthy, low sugar varieties; peanut butter and/or jelly; canned fruit; Shelf-ready, non-perishable milk; pasta and pasta sauce; spaghetti Os or ravioli; 100% juice; Ramon noodles; chicken noodle soup and personal care products, such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothpaste; and disposable diapers, sizes 4 – 6. Visit the PACH Web site at http://www.pachoutreach.org/. “The PACH Food Pantry is a mission of love and faith to serve people of the community. We decided that a Charity Garage Sale was something new and exciting to raise money for this worthy cause. This our way of giving back to the communities who have supported Wilson Brothers in the past,” said Tom Wilson. The Charity Garage Sale will run from 8 am until 2 pm on Saturday, October 1st. In the event of rain, the event will be moved inside the spacious Wilson Brothers garage.

What weighs over 600 pounds, takes 3 people to load into a truck and is worth over $1,600? Over the past two months, Wilson Brothers HVAC in Pepperell, has been collecting non-perishables for the PACH Food Pantry in Pepperell. In fact, Tom Wilson, one of the three Wilson Brothers of Wilson Brothers HVAC in Pepperell, feels so strongly about his company’s commitment to supporting the Food Pantry, that he has discounted the cost of heating and air conditioning tune-ups for his customers in exchange for a sack of groceries. To-date Wilson Brothers has collected canned goods and non-perishables with a value of over $1,600. “We estimate that it takes at least 8 large grocery sacks to completely fill the box,” said Bonnie Wright, Wilson Brothers Marketing Manager. “So far we have filled and emptied the collection box at least ten or twelve times,” she added. “The Food Pantries are the recipients of generous donations around the holidays, but this time of year the shelves get to be a bit bare,” explained Tom Wilson. A local HVAC company, Wilson Brothers has raised $1,000 as a sponsor and Pepperell coordinator for the American Cancer Society’s annual Daffodil Days. One of the American Cancer Society’s oldest and most beloved fundraising programs since 1973, Daffodil Days has helped to save lives from cancer by raising money and awareness to help beat the disease. “This is the first year we participated in Daffodil Days and we are excited to have exceeded our goal,” said Tom Wilson, owner of Wilson Brothers HVAC, Inc. “The generosity of our neighbors was impressive. They opened their hearts and pockets in support of this campaign. Every dollar truly counts, especially in times like these when people need our help more than ever,” he added. Donors selected from a range of products including bunches of daffodils, stuffed bears or donated money to purchase flowers and gifts for cancer patients. Massachusetts sponsors of this event raised over $1,000,000 during this year’s Daffodil Days. Tom Wilson, one of the three Wilson Brothers of Wilson Brothers HVAC in Pepperell, feels very strongly about his company’s commitment to supporting local charities. So much so, in fact, that he has pledged to donate 5% of his company’s revenue for heating system tune-ups this winter to two local area Food Pantries. Both the Devens Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry and the PACH Food Pantry (Pepperell Aid from Community to Home) are beneficiaries of this commitment. In the past, Wilson Brothers HVAC has helped with the repair and preventative maintenance of the Devens Food Pantry heating system. Wilson Brothers has also assisted with the annual Post Office Food Drive collection of sacks of groceries to be donated to the Food Pantry. “We carted more than 80 boxes and filled the trucks – it was amazing!” exclaimed Tom. “We thought we were just going to deliver the donations, but it turned out to be fun! We got involved and met the Food Pantry staff and volunteers.” “The Food Pantries are the recipients of generous donations around the holidays, but this time of year the shelves get to be a bit bare,” explained Tom Wilson. According to the Food Pantry Web sites, they are especially in need of the following items: canned meat, including tuna, ham, and chicken; cereal – any type of healthy, low sugar varieties; peanut butter and/or jelly; canned fruit; Shelf-ready, non-perishable milk; pasta and pasta sauce; spaghetti Os or ravioli; 100% juice; Ramon noodles; chicken noodle soup and personal care products, such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothpaste; and disposable diapers, sizes 4 – 6. Wilson hopes that the money donated from heating system tune-ups this winter will help fund other necessities. “The PACH and the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry is a mission of love and faith to serve people of Pepperell, Ayer, Devens, Groton, Harvard, Littleton, and Shirley. This is just my way of giving back to the communities who have supported Wilson Brothers in the past,” said Wilson.
